School Governors

At Belmont Primary School, our Governing Body is made up of:

• Parent Governors – elected by Parents
• Co-opted Governors – appointed by the Governing Board
• Local Authority Governors – appointed by the Governing Board
• Head teacher- Governor by virtue of their office
• Staff Governors – elected by teaching and non-teaching staff
• Associate Members – appointed by the Governing Body
• (The Chair and Vice Chair are elected from and by the Governing Body)

The day to day management of the school is the responsibility of the headteacher. The Governing Body provides strategic management while supporting the work of the headteacher and school staff.

There are three types of formal meetings that Governors attend. Firstly, the meeting of the Full Governing Body. The next two meetings are both committee meetings. These are called ‘Resources & Finance’ and ‘Curriculum’. The Resources & Finance Committee meetings look at matters such as the building, finances, staffing and resources. The Curriculum Committee meeting looks at the curriculum, standards, teaching and pupil welfare.
