At Belmont Primary School we are committed to provide a design and technology curriculum that is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
At Belmont we are committed to providing all children with learning opportunities to engage in design technology. We aim to provide a learning environment where children feel secure in creative risk-taking and problem solving is encouraged and the children’s design ideas and suggestions are valued.
At Belmont in DT lessons all children will develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. Through our DT progression pupils will build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills (in textiles, mechanisms, structures, electrical systems and food) in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users.
Pupils at Belmont will also be encouraged to critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others.
